The mechatronic unit is the brain and the hydraulics of a modern automatic in one housing: valve body, solenoids, sensors and the control module. It’s also, on most modern gearboxes, the part that actually fails, while the gears and clutches are perfectly serviceable.
12 month warranty

When a modern automatic starts shifting harshly, flaring between gears, dropping into limp mode or refusing to select drive, the instinct is to assume the gearbox is finished. In the great majority of cases the mechanical side is fine and the problem is hydraulic or electrical: a leaking seal, a worn valve bore, a solenoid that no longer meters accurately, or a control module fault.
We remanufacture mechatronic units properly. The unit is stripped, every valve bore measured, worn bores sleeved or the valve body replaced, solenoids tested individually and replaced where they’re out of tolerance, seals renewed, and the assembled unit run on a test bench through its full pressure and duty-cycle range before it’s signed off.
Remove the unit, pack it, and we’ll collect it anywhere in mainland UK. It comes back bench tested, coded to your VIN where required, with the adaptation procedure supplied and a warranty.

| Symptom | What’s usually behind it |
|---|---|
| Limp home, stuck in one gear | Solenoid failure, internal short, pressure loss |
| No drive in D or R | Pressure loss from the accumulator, or a sleeve or seal failure |
| Harsh, jolting shifts | Valve bore wear, solenoid drift, contaminated fluid |
| Flare between gears | Slow pressure response from a solenoid or the valve body |
| Delayed engagement from cold | Internal leakage, pressure bleeding down when parked |
| Intermittent warning lights | Sensor or wiring internal to the unit |
| Fluid leak at the electrical connector | Failed connector sleeve seal, very common on ZF |

Where a control module has failed, we can clone the original to a replacement so the unit retains its immobiliser and VIN data and drops straight in. Where a rebuilt unit needs setting up, adaptation is part of the job rather than an extra. A mechanically perfect rebuild will feel wrong on the road if the adaptations haven’t been reset and learned properly.
We price a mechatronic remanufacture once we know which unit you have and what it is doing. Send us the gearbox number and the symptoms and you will have an answer the same working day, with an indicative price wherever we can give one.
Often you don’t until it’s read and pressure tested. Send us the codes and the symptoms and we’ll give you an honest view before you commit.
Typically a few working days from receipt, plus carriage.
No. Private customers and trade both welcome.
For the common families, yes.

How it works
You don’t need to bring the car. Most of what we do arrives on a pallet.
We can arrange collection anywhere in mainland UK. Ask when you enquire.
No work happens without your say-so, and there are no surprises on the invoice.
Same working day
The gearbox number, the vehicle and the symptoms. That is usually enough for a straight answer, and photographs are welcome.
