What brings them in
Almost always one of these, and usually more than one by the time it arrives:
- Jumping out of gear
- Crunching on the change
- A tight or notchy selector
- Noise that rises with road speed
- Excessive movement at the gear stick
If yours is doing any of that, the unit is worth sending. A box that jumps out of gear does not recover on its own, and the longer it is driven the more of the gear train it takes with it.
Sending the unit
Drain it, strap it to a pallet and tell us it is coming. We can collect anywhere in mainland UK. The price above is for the unit on its own, which is how most of these arrive: the van is earning, and the quickest route back on the road is to send the gearbox rather than the vehicle.

How it works
Sending us a unit
You don’t need to bring the car. Most of what we do arrives on a pallet.
- Drain it. Couriers won’t take a unit full of oil, and it’ll leak.
- Crate or pallet it. A gearbox needs to be strapped to a pallet or in a stout crate. A cardboard box won’t survive.
- Label it. Put your name, telephone number and the vehicle inside the packaging as well as on it. Labels come off in transit.
- Tell us it’s coming. Send the enquiry form first so we know what to expect and can book it in.
We can arrange collection anywhere in mainland UK. Ask when you enquire.
What happens next

- 03If it needs looking at, we book it in or arrange collection.
- 04We strip and assess, then ring you with a firm price before any work goes ahead.
- 05Rebuilt, tested, returned, warranted for 12 months.
No work happens without your say-so, and there are no surprises on the invoice.
